Cable Reference and Ground

MHARNESS® is a transmission line code and therefore requires a ground reference for implementation. If the impedance matrices are manually defined, then the reference is implicit in the entries of the matrices. However, for automatic computation the reference must be identified. The reference can be a ground plane, a cylindrical shell, or another conductor such as a wire. In MHARNESS the reference is always assumed to be a ground plane unless otherwise specified. The reference (ground plane, cylindrical shell, or another conductor) can be perfectly conducting (PEC) or lossy.

There are three keywords associated with the cable reference / ground section of the MHARNESS input file. These keywords are listed below. • WIRE REFERENCE • CYLINDRICAL SHELL REFERENCE • REFERENCE RESISTANCE

When MHARNESS is used within the software program, EMA3D, the reference is automatically computed to effect proper cable behavior.
