Grounded Pigtail Connectors | ![]() |
A pigtail connector on a shield modifies the shield at the connector to represent a wire that can then be directly grounded to the superior shield. Such a configuration allows the division of current at the shield end to divide, as illustrated in the figure below. Some of the current will flow to the inner conductors and some will flow along the pigtail to the superior shield. A circuit boundary condition may be employed on the pigtail end and there is no coupling between the pigtail and the inner conductors. However, there is direct coupling through the outer shield to the interior conductors.
