Input File Conventions

The EMA3D® input file consists of a collection of simple text lines which define the geometry, materials, directional conductors, and output probe information. The algorithms of EMA3D are designed to process these text lines. If a text line does not have the right format, then an error message will result, and the program will terminate. Error messages will be printed to the screen and appear in a summary file (see Section 5.1.5).

The EMA3D input file is thus an ASCII file which contains the necessary information to completely describe the problem for EMA3D. The input file consists of keywords, keyword descriptors, and comments. Comments are preceded by an asterisk “*”. Comments and blank lines are ignored. All parameter data within the input file is expected to be MKSA units.

Keywords are discussed in Section 6.1. The format of an input file entry is described in Section 6.2. Keyword descriptors are discussed in Section 6.3. Naming conventions are presented in Section 6.4. Input file nomenclature is described in Section 6.5. The polarity of the current within a cable segment is defined in Section 6.6. Finally, a general summary is provided in Section 6.7.
