Illumination

The Illumination feature allows the users to assign a direction and intensity of incoming solar irradiation that matches the AM0 spectral distribution. This can be important for surface charging simulations as the solar irradiance can have a significant influence due to the photoelectric effect which can alter the overall charging level that is achieved. Setting up the Illumination source is easy and is outlined below.

  1. In the Environment section, click on the Illumination Illumination 20 button to create an Illumination source (located in the Simulation tree under Environments) and the properties window will open up.

  2. The properties window has the configuration options below, which includes the Solar Intensity, and the directional component contributions.

Clicking on the table icon produces the interface shown below.

  3. The table below describes the properties of the Illumination source.

Dictate the time interval and intensity distribution:

    • Time-Set the time duration

    • Intensity (S,x,y,z)-(total intensity value, x-intensity component value, y-intensity component value, z-intensity component value)

With the Illumination source now set, the user can move onto defining the materials used in the simulation. The user can modify the Illumination values at anytime by simply reopening the properties menu by clicking the IlluminationIllumination 20 button.
