Illumination |
The Illumination feature allows the users to assign a direction and intensity of incoming solar irradiation that matches the AM0 spectral distribution. This can be important for surface charging simulations as the solar irradiance can have a significant influence due to the photoelectric effect which can alter the overall charging level that is achieved. Setting up the Illumination source is easy and is outlined below.
In the Environment section, click on the Illumination
button to create an Illumination source. The Illumination source will appear in the Simulation Tree under Environments and the properties window will open.
Click on Illumination in the properties section of the HUD to reveal the options, which include the Solar Intensity and the proportional magnitudes of the incoming radiation along the X, Y, and Z axes
When finished adjusting the values in the property window, click OK
to complete the Illumination definition
The Illumination definition can be viewed in the EMA3D stage by navigating through the SID at the bottom of the Discovery window, where you can edit the definition or rename the Illumination
Entry | Meaning |
|---|---|
Intensity (S) | The intensity of the spectrum dictating the power flux of the irradiation. This value is normalized to the intensity of an AM0 spectrum at 1 AU. |
X Component (x) | Set the proportional magnitude of the incoming radiation along the x-axis. |
Y Component (y) | Set the proportional magnitude of the incoming radiation along the y-axis. |
Z Component (z) | Set the proportional magnitude of the incoming radiation along the z-axis. |
Number of Steps (n) | Set the number of time steps. Illumination timesteps can also be directly imported by clicking on the bottom bar in the pop up window. |
Time Varying | Toggle time varying illumination and parameterize the intensity function over specified time intervals by interactingwith the table below. |
